The Longterm Care Ombudsman Program

The Regional Ombudsman and the Volunteer Advisory Committees in each county serve as advocates to:

  • Ensure the rights of the resident are not violated.
  • Resolve complaints at the local level.
  • Serve as a link between the community, the residents and their families.
  • Heighten awareness of elder abuse and provide training and public awareness activities.

The Medicare Lookout Program/SHIIP Program

  • Educates Medicare beneficiaries about fraud and abuse in the Medicare Program.
  • Helps seniors interpret their Explanation of Benefits on their Medicare Summary.
  • Works in coordination with SHIIP – Seniors Health Insurance Information Program.

The Health Promotion and Disease Prevention Program

  • Provides information to seniors about healthy lifestyles necessary to stay independent or become healthier.
  • Contributes to all area health fairs and distributes information and promotional items at events and senior centers/organizations throughout the region.
  • Provides evidence-based health curricula and certified facilitator throughout the region.

The Legal Program

  • Provides simple wills and power of attorney to seniors age 60 and over.
  • AAA contracts with an attorney in each county in the region and coordinates the application and approval process.
