HISTORY
The Swain County JobLink Center was an affiliate of the Macon County JobLink Center and a part of the charter of the Macon County JobLink from 1998 through September 2001. Prior to 2001 citizens of Swain County could receive services locally only two days per week. If services were needed at other times then Swain county residents had to travel 22 miles to the JobLink in Jackson County. The Partners in Swain County felt that their citizens needed and deserved to have full-time access to services provided by the JobLink Career Center. During the period 1998 through 2001, the center went from a two day operation to a full time, full service center. In October 2001, the Swain County JobLink Center was chartered as a full service JobLink Career Center by the Southwestern Workforce Development Board.
The Swain County JobLink was re-chartered in November 2004 as a level II JobLink Career Center. In January 2006, due to under funding and other budget restraints, it became necessary to reduce the days of operation from five days per week to 2 days per week. Currently the Swain County Center is open on Tuesday, and Thursday from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
